Hulu with Live TV is a comprehensive live TV package that comes with more than 80 live channels, including major local networks like ABC and NBC and sports channels like ESPN and CBS Sports. Plans start at $83/month, but Hulu with Live TV has a range of add-ons you can purchase. You can download the Hulu app on Roku to start watching on your Roku device and log in with your Hulu credentials if you already have an account. If you don’t, you can sign up through Roku, where you will be billed, but note that add-ons can only be managed directly on Hulu.com. If you’re on a basic tier, you’ll also want to update your plan on Hulu rather than Roku to enjoy bundle inclusions like Disney+ and ESPN+, which should come at no additional cost with Hulu with Live TV.

Great for kids: There’s no shortage of content for younger audiences, with all the major Disney hits a click away. 

New theatrical releases: Although sometimes you have to pay an extra fee (usually of up to $30), a great perk of Disney Plus is Premier Access, which makes theatrical releases immediately available to stream on the platform.

If you’re fine with that, then Frndly TV comes as a great entertainment cable alternative that you can watch on most major streaming devices, including all Roku players. On the Roku app, simply search for Frndly TV on the channel store and add it to your homepage lineup if it’s not there already. Once you sign in with your credentials (or sign up through Roku) then you can start watching Frndly on the platform.

Price: Apple TV+ is great value for money compared to just about every streaming service out there, in terms of both quality of the programming and service. Offline downloads and 4K streaming: Although you have to pay for the service, Paramount+ offers premium subscribers offline downloads, as well as 4K streaming for select titles.

Sling TV's new package offers 10 channels, including the highly-prized ESPN and ESPN2, for only $19.99/month. You'll want to compare this with "Sling Select", another skinny bundle from Sling that costs the same, but instead of ESPN, it comes with NFL Network and Fox Sports 1. Interestingly, if you combine both for $40, you'll have one of the most extensive channel lineups for less than half the price of the big alternatives like Youtube TV.

Worth noting that Essentials only comes with 1 simultaneous stream, so if you plan on running this on more than one device, you might want to consider other alternatives.

DirecTV is known for its comprehensive but pricey live TV packages, but now it's offering something a little more accessible in the form of MyFree DirecTV. DirecTV's newest service is completely free (they don't even ask for your credit card details) and airs channels like Dove TV, Tastemade, Moviesphere, Live Tennis, Sports Grid, Design TV, Court TV, and more. You don't have to be a DirecTV customer to access it, but you do need to create an account using an email address and download the DirecTV app on your preferred device. The app works fine on major streaming devices, including mobiles and TVs powered by Android and Apple. For now, MyFree DirecTV has a total of 70 free channels, but it's announced more channels are on the way as it finalizes partnerships with studios like A&E, Fox, and Lionsgate.

Hand-picked curation: The types of movies that are curated by Mubi tend to be especially niche, even more so than the Criterion Collection. Rather than by category, movies are tagged with descriptors such as Adaptations, Debuts, New Auteurs, etc. Community features: Mubi has two sections made for their subscriber community of movie buffs to interact: The Feed and the Notebook. The Feed is a list of user reviews and social media posts, while The Notebook includes reviews and commentary from Mubi staff and other contributors. You also get a profile page on which you can list all of your movie ratings. Offline downloads: You can stream the Mubi catalog 1080p and download on mobile devices at any time.

Programming: The breadth of shows and movies justifies the higher price of Max. As of the pandemic, the platform has also begun to release new movies originally intended for the big screen. It even includes podcasts.

Sling's new skinny bundle called Select includes 11 TV channels for $19.99, making it the cheapest way to get NFL Network or Fox Sports 1. This is Sling's answer to DirecTV's genre packs and other bundles that the cord-cutting industry is starting to offer to grapple with one reality: cord-cutting was becoming a lot like cable. Sling Select is a welcome alternative.

Is it an overstatement to say that this is the bundle to end all bundles? Probably, but it sure is a strong deal, one positioned to beat StreamSaver’s Netflix + Apple TV + Peacock bundle, which is still $2 cheaper, mind you. The Disney+ + Hulu + Max bundle combines all of the streaming services' on-demand content (no Hulu with Live TV here, sadly) and offers them in two tiers: With Ads, which costs $16.99/month, and No Ads, which costs $29.99/month. If you were to subscribe to them separately, they’d cost $26 and $49, so the bundle saves you 34% and 38% each month, respectively. You can purchase the bundle on any of the three streaming platforms’ websites, but where you can watch them can be quite tricky. To be brief: you can watch Hulu and Disney+ content on each of their apps (they're basically interchangeable), but you can only watch Max films and shows on the Hulu app. You can't watch Hulu or Disney+ on the Max app. As of now, the bundle doesn't offer free trials, but you can cancel your subscription anytime.
