The Best Streaming Services Based in Canada

CanCon allowed Canadian music to succeed domestically and reach international audiences. Sadly, the same doesn't really exist for streaming.

The next best thing is investing in Canada-based streaming services. One that stands out is Fearless.li, an inclusion-oriented streaming service from Toronto. Then of course there is Crave, owned by Bell Media. Shomi was another alternative, owned by Rogers and Shaw, but it shut down in 2016, only two years after it was launched.

Our recommended three best streaming services based in canada:
Crave $9.99 Watch
StackTV $12.99 Watch
Fearless $7.99 Watch

StackTV is a streaming channel available to either Amazon Prime subscribers or Rogers customers.  It's one of the rare Canadian services that hosts premium broadcast networks, including Global, Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, History, Adult Swim, National Geographic, and Lifetime, among others. It's a bit steep at $12.99 a month, but its wide availability via Amazon and its exclusive access to notable American networks is worth considering.

OutTV is one of the earliest LGBTQ+ oriented streaming services, dating back to a channel by the same name that was launched in 2001. OutTV offers a wide range of programming, from original series and movies to licensed content from other networks. Some of their most popular titles include "Canada's Drag Race" and "Call Me Mother".

Fearless is a Toronto-based streaming service built around inclusivity. Their focus is on showcasing films highlighting stories from LGBTQ+ people, Women, BIPOC, and stories on disability. They also enable creators to directly submit their work on either a Free license basis (for creators only interested in traction) or a paid/exclusive license.

Crave is a Canadian subscription service founded in 2014 that gives users exclusive access to US titles and theater releases, as well as original shows, live content, and Canada-only movies and series. In particular, the service has a deal with studios Warner Bros. and Paramount, and with channels HBO, HBO Max, Showtime, Comedy Central, and MTV, so you can be sure to find the most in-demand releases on the service. Crave plans start at $9.99/month for single users, while the premium package costs $19.99/month.
