The Cheapest Streaming Services with Local Channels

With the prices of live TV skyrocketing (can you believe YouTubeTV used to be $35/month?), it can be hard to believe that there are still affordable ways to watch local channels cord-free. So in this article, we're rounding up the cheapest streaming services with local channels. Sling TV makes the list since Sling Blue now offers ABC, FOX, and NBC in select markets. As of 2024, FrndlyTV also offers local channels, but don't expect major network affiliates—this one's more independent local channels. Spectrum and Xfinity users have their pick of the litter too in Spectrum TV Choice and NowTV, but make sure to check with customer service for extra fees.

Frndly TV

Frndly started as a family-friendly (get it?) cord-cutting service, but thanks to its very small price tag of $6.99, its brand evolves more around affordability. You'll get Hallmark, Weather Channel, Lifetime, and Frndly will even throw in a free 7 day trial. Recently, Frndly has also invested in its device availability: so on top of being able to watch on your computer or Roku, they now also have an app for Samsung Smart TVs. And credit where its due, these investments have not translated to an increase in price.

Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

Streaming is so segmented nowadays: there are almost as many streaming services as there are sports leagues for example. We're including Paramount in this list because not only does it include CBS local channels and CBS Sports, it is also the only way to watch sports events like the UEFA Champions League. Its $11.99 price tag is so affordable, it's cheaper than some "add-ons" that other live TV streaming services offer.

Spectrum TV Choice

Spectrum TV Choice is an internet television service that is only available to Charter Spectrum internet customers. It costs $29.99 per month plus a mandatory "flat tax" for local channels of $23.20. The channels available to you will depend on your location, but usually you can choose 10 more channels to add to your plan. Please be careful that after 30 days, you might not be able to change the list of 10 channels you choose. Designed as an alternative to cable subscriptions and on-demand streaming platforms, Spectrum TV Choice offers a combination of major cable channels and on-demand content that can be streamed through smart TVs, digital media players, and mobile apps. In the channel line-up, our editors chose 15 typical channels available to stream. You can read more in our dedicated explainer here: Spectrum TV Choice Explained: Plans, Pricing, Channels.
