What it's about

Ivan Locke has worked hard to craft a good life for himself. Tonight, that life will collapse around him. On the eve of the biggest challenge of his career, Ivan receives a phone call that sets in motion a series of events that will unravel his family, job, and soul.

The take

Tom Hardy channels (and transcends) his inner Colin Farrell with this film which takes place inside of a BMW SUV in its entirety. A mature drama that pays homage to anyone battling internal demons, Locke is an 85 minute road trip in which the viewer acts as the passenger. Intricately constructed with a series of intense phone calls and conversations, the film will reward you with an immersive experience with palpable anxiety that has moments that at times feel all too real.

Comments

Everything about this movie is criminally underrated.
Although we don’t see them except Tom Hardy, it casts some of the best British talents: Olivia Cormen, Tom Holland and Andrew Scott. Let that sink in.
The score is introspective and serves as the context for the protagonists’ mindset. It too is underestimated.
It looks beautiful too.
It is very close to my heart because of the idea that no matter how worse the situation is, there is still a lot you can do about it, to not to let it get worse. And that resonates in a big way.

Fantastic chamber drama, one set, one actor, one story of a man’s life, his fears, his mistakes, and, in the end, his responsibility. Tom Hardy’s best role so far.
