  • 12 hours ago - Ne le Dis à Personne (Tell No One) (2006) is new on Amazon Prime.
Francois Cluzet, who you may remember from The Intouchable, plays a man whose wife is killed and is accused of murdering her. To make matters even more confusing, signs that his wife is actually still alive surface. This well thought out thriller is at all times the furthest thing from boring and has, among other great components, well crafted chase scenes as the protagonist looks for 8 years of unanswered questions.
  • 2 weeks ago - Sin Nombre (2009) is new on Amazon Prime.
A foreign film on par with City of God, and carrying its heritage of naturalistic performances and raw stories. Sin Nombre will take you into a world filled with gut wrenching violence, heart-breaking loss, and non-stop suspense. And while definitely a tough watch, it reports the horrors of immigration with humane and sometimes hopeful outlook. The profound and epic redemption in this movie will leave you thinking about it for days.
  • 2 weeks ago - Wonder Boys (2000) is new on Amazon Prime.
Michael Douglas plays Grady Tripp, a craggy, lovable English professor struggling to finish the follow-up to a very successful first novel. It has taken him 7 years, and it's an obvious metaphor for his ridiculous life. The character navigates various tragicomic dilemmas with a stellar supporting cast including Frances McDormand, Tobey Maguire, and Katie Holmes. His editor is Robert Downey Jr. and his nemesis is Rip Torn. Bob Dylan wrote the theme song. How do you not love this movie? It's one of those films that feels like a warm, cozy house (despite the fact that it takes place in a Pittsburgh winter), and it's a great blend of humor and drama.
  • 2 weeks ago - Submarine (2011) is new on Amazon Prime.
Awkward. That is how Oliver Tate can be described, and generally the whole movie. But it is professionally and scrutinizingly awkward. Submarine is a realistic teen comedy, one that makes sense and in which not everyone looks gorgeous and pretends to have a tough time. It is hilarious and sad, dark and touching. It is awesome and it's embarrassing, and it's the kind of movie that gets nearly everything about being a teen right, no matter where you grew up.
  • 2 weeks ago - 303 (2018) is new on Amazon Prime.
A sweet and romantic German movie about two Berliners who meet randomly and go on a road trip to the south of Europe. It might seem like a silly premise but it's actually a philosophical movie, one that feels very realistic. The two characters debate human nature, politics, relationships, etc; almost throughout their trip. And they're played by excellent newcomers who ooze charisma and make the question of what will happen between them incredibly thrilling.
  • 2 weeks ago - Eve’s Bayou (1997) is new on Amazon Prime.
Eve’s Bayou is a Southern Gothic tale of spirituality, family, secrets, and the ties that bind them together. The story follows the awakening, both spiritual and emotional, of young Eve Baptiste. The middle sibling of the Baptiste family, 10-year-old Eve, navigates childhood while enduring the tumultuous relationship between her mother and father. What lurks beneath a seemingly ordinary marital conflict is an insidious betrayal that could tear her entire family apart. Eve’s Bayou should be considered one of the greatest Black American epics of the past 25 years. I adore this film because it is unflinchingly real - and honest about the sometimes rocky reality of familial bonds.
  • 2 weeks ago - It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010) is new on Amazon Prime.
Stressed by adolescence, 16-year-old Craig Gilner checks himself into a mental-health clinic. Unfortunately, the youth wing is closed, so he must spend his mandated five-day stay with adults. One of them, Bobby, quickly becomes his mentor -- and him his protege, while Craig finds himself drawn to a fellow teen, Noelle, who just may be the cure he needs to forget an unrequited crush. Starring Keir Gilchrist and Zack Galifianakis, It's kind of a Funny Story is based on a novel of the same name.
  • 2 weeks ago - King Jack (2016) is new on Amazon Prime.
This small movie set over one summer weekend is a tender and affecting coming-of-age drama.Jack is a bullied adolescent who lives in a run-down small town. When his aunt falls sick, he has to take care of his cousin, a younger and even more vulnerable kid. Their relationship evolves in this sensitive drama that spans a quick hour and 15 minutes.

  • 1 month ago - Sound of Metal (2020) is new on Amazon Prime.
Riz Ahmed stars in this piercing drama as Ruben, a heavy metal drummer who starts to lose his hearing.Ruben lives with his girlfriend and bandmate Lou (Olivia Cooke) in their touring bus. As recovering addicts with little financial means, they quickly run out of options as to how to deal with his new predicament. Ruben calls his sponsor, who arranges for him to spend time in a deaf community.Sound of Metal spans two continents, countless settings, and a great, complex love story. There is something deeper going on though: the question of what exactly is a disability, and how, despite how it drastically changes Ruben's life, it might not be his biggest problem.
