Background

Pluto TV launched in 2013, and has had a steady, successful path of growth, currently boasting over 50 million global viewers. It was purchased by ViacomCBS in 2019, so it now hosts all the content under that corporate umbrella.

Who it is for

If you’re looking to add a live option to your streamer collection, it’s hard to beat Pluto’s nonexistent price point. Plus the content library is vast, ranging from Oscar-winning classics to stand-up specials to anime. It doesn’t allow viewers to DVR content though, so be prepared to live in the moment (or just rewatch an on demand title again later).

Why to get it

I’ll say it again: it’s free! It’s also super easy to access. The app is available on most Smart TVs and streaming devices, and if you don’t have either of those, you can just pull up the website and watch from your computer.
