Hereditary 2018

Pure Horror but Not the Horror You're Used To

Our Take (by Bilal Zouheir)

A chilling and dark movie to be especially appreciated by true suspense lovers. At the funeral of the family’s matriarch, no one is emotional except the granddaughter, whose grieving is disturbing, to say the least. When both grieving and not grieving are unsettling, you can tell what kind of family (and movie) this will be.

Notable Critics

"It has the nerve to suggest that the social unit is, by definition, self-menacing, and that the home is no longer a sanctuary but a crumbling fortress, under siege from within."

— Anthony Lane

"This is serious, glorious, edge-of-your-seat horror."

— Hannah Strong

Synopsis

Comments

    1. Yeah, I’m inclined to agree. I watch a lot of horror movies, and this one has gotten a ton of praise. I can see where people are coming from, but for some reason this movie didn’t do it for me. It did make me jump a few times, and I found myself asking, “Can they really show that in a movie??” Worth a watch just for that I think, but it’s not the kind of stuff that haunts your dreams either.
