What it's about

Palestine, 1948. After the withdrawal of the British occupiers, tensions rise between Arabs and Jews. Meanwhile, Farha, the smart daughter of the mayor of a small village, unaware of the coming tragedy, dreams of going to study in the big city.

The take

Based on a true story, Darin J. Sallam’s controversial debut feature Farha is, at heart, a brutal coming-of-age film. Set in 1948, the film is about a girl who gets locked into her family’s storeroom at the start of the Nakba, the Palestinian Catastrophe. Sallam’s choice to limit most of the film’s perspective to that small storeroom is brilliant – in some ways, it echoes the surrounding discussion about the conflict. Most of what the world knows of Palestine is limited due to having to deal with censorship, lost records, and only hearing word-of-mouth stories from ancestors who just barely survived. But what we see is already too horrific to begin with. And what the film knows is the tragedy of losing your home - having to leave childhood, leave your dreams, and leave a vibrant and living culture in order to survive.

Comments

A must see movie that helps to understand the suffering and the tragedy of Palestinian people since 1948 The Nakba. Based on a true story, the movie is a reflection not only of the disaster from the past time but also of what is happening currently and basically since 1948. Brilliant acting, beautiful cinematography, great director. Story is a living reality, brutally emotional, sad and trilling. A rating of 10/10 for me.

A brilliant movie, I suggest a 9/9 rating, a must watch! This is a true version of the horrendous events of Palestine Nakba 1948. This movie makes you understand the effect and outcome of the Zionist atrocities on Palestinians, destruction of lives, displacement, and massacres… continuous airstrikes and bombardments, white Phosphorus is rained on innocent civilians, Palestinians still suffer due to Zionist terrorism, it’s the truth.

Great movie sad that History is repeating itself

This is a movie about Naqaba. The devastation that occurred in 1948. I had read about the Palestinian history over the years but this movie made me cry. It’s hard to believe that the Jews from all over the Eastern Europe gathered and were helped by British to move to Palestine and steal their land by force. It’s an absolutely beautiful. Living reality. I watched it several times. I recommend every one to see it. It is a revealing story. It explains how Jews have continued the atrocities on indigenous Arab population ever since. Palestinians have been placed in walled Worlds Largest Concentration Camp. More than 26000 innocent civilians have been slaughtered and twice as many injured with very serious injuries.

It was an epic true story that happened in tte 1948 Naqba. Very true and compelling movie that depicts hiw the poor Palestinians who are tye owners of the land were annihilated. Thrirlives destroyed killed enmass. This was a Genocide committed by the Zionist Regime. One cannot believe what these Jewish monsters from Eastern Europe came to put shit in Palestine and kicked out the real indigenous people of the land and turned them into refugees from their own homeland. These murderous imbeciles caused so much mayhem that one cannot believe that these very same people who were killed by tte Germans were capable of inflicting the same brutality and even surpass that of the Nazi Germany.I recommend highly this movie. I GIVE IT 10 STARS.

Absolutely beautiful. Living reality. I watched it several times. I recommend every one to see it. It is a revealing story. I give it all thumbs up.

A must see! Sad and emotional roller coaster as it is based on the truth which is unfortunately still going on and we are witnessing as helpless watchers! If anyone thinks they have a hard life, this will make you think twice. Compliments to the lead role, and director and best of luck for being selected at the Oscars! Free Palestine now!!!!!!

A really good movie, eye opening.. depicting the truth of the nakba..

Brilliant movie, an eye opener to the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime. History is repeating itself. The stories shared by my grandparents are brought to life in this movie, unfortunately.. the sad truth. Everyone should watch this movie to realize the depth of the scars created by the zionist project.

It’s staggering how people who suffered from the worst crimes are committing themselves genocide against the Palestinian people. Zionism cannot and should not survive. The Jewish people should stand up against Israel.
