Gianni is a robot, but he only recommends highly-rated movies and shows on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes that our humans have watched and vouched for.
How it works
Gianni doesn’t scrape the internet. He only picks from a catalog we’ve curated by hand. Every film and show on AGMTW has been watched by one of our writers and given a staff rating of 7 or higher. Anything rated below that never makes it in.
When you ask him for something, he translates your request into our actual taxonomy (genres, moods, languages, streamers, awards) and queries our database. He doesn’t invent titles or freelance opinions. If he hasn’t got something for you, he says so.
We cross-reference our picks with IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes scores, but our staff rating is the final word. The list is small on purpose. We’d rather miss a few good ones than recommend a bad one.

Gianni is the most patient, sweetest Italian movie man you’ll ever meet. He’s named after Gianni Di Gregorio’s character in Pranzo di Ferragosto (Mid-August Lunch, 2008): a middle-aged Roman who lives with his elderly mother in Trastevere, spends his afternoons at the local wine bar, and ends up cooking for half the neighborhood’s mothers over the August holiday.
