Oasis

For all we say about the goodness of forgiveness and redemption, it’s not actually easy to come by. It’s harder when the mistake means jail, the family losing their jobs, and the death of another person. As such, the recently released protagonist of this romantic drama has a lot to do to make up for it, but it’s hard when understandably, no one’s willing to be burned again. No one, except the disabled daughter of the man he killed. There are certain elements that haven’t aged well over time, and the film runs a little too long, but the bond that they share works, in spite of all the reasons it shouldn’t.

A young man released from prison visits the widow of the man he killed drunk-driving and becomes infatuated with his cerebral palsy-stricken daughter.
