Our take
While it had a tumultuous end, there was a reason why Sweet Home was the first Korean drama to reach Netflix’s Top 10 Shows in the USA. The most obvious reason was that the apocalyptic horror eerily echoed humanity’s concerns at the time. What people would have seen as derivative from other apocalyptic stories actually felt relatable in the wake of a viral pandemic. However, we think that Sweet Home might have worked even without this coincidence. Forgoing zombies for multiple creature types reflecting their previous human lives pushed them to create a set of interesting neighbors. As a result, the farther it went from Green Home, and the farther it went from the Webtoon, Sweet Home had more difficulties. Nonetheless, it still deserved its kudos for the characters it crafted so well.
