Teacup

Teacup

A slow-moving, occasionally frightening body-swap horror that centers on trust and family

TLDR

It's closest in theme and plot to the underrated show From, which I believe you should watch instead.

What it's about

When an eerie stranger drops by, a vet and her family find themselves trapped in their remote home in rural Georgia.

The take

Teacup, produced by James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) is suspenseful enough. It leans on gore and even sci-fi later on, but hardcore horror fans might find Teacup’s offerings tedious. Its real problem, however, is pace and depth. The series is a mystery at its core, but the revelations come either too late or tame—the stakes never feel high enough to have us on our toes. Then there’s the family at the heart of the story. The actors’ performances are compelling, but they can only do so much with so little on their hands. The characters are mere sketches, tropes even, making them hard to root for and follow till the end. Teacup, again, offers enough to intrigue, but it may be lacking if you’re looking for something full-bodied and actually terrifying.

What stands out

The gore is effectively horrifying. Too bad you can’t say the same about everything else in the show.
