Attack the Block 2011

Our Take (by Abtein Foghi)

A modern yet entertaining take on an alien invasion movie but with a twist with who’s defending us against these wretched beasts. Taking place on Guy Fawkes night in South London, it pits a Brixton gang of ne’er do wells against technologically advanced space aliens. With a sharp sense of humor and eye for detail, first-time director Joe Cornish fleshes out his cast with authentic unknown local actors and sharp class conscious details. Even better, the soundtrack was done by Basement Jaxx and it bangs along with fierce grime and dubstep action.

Notable Critics

"It's a doozy, offering tight and imaginative camerawork, electric thrills, and a sharp, twisty script that plays like a social satire."

— Bruce Diones

"Balancing big laughs and big shocks, Attack the Block is a brilliant first film by anybody's standards."

— Matt Bochenski
