Organized crime syndicates go by their own rules, but apparently some take on a bit of a democracy in their succession planning. Election centers on the titled process for the Wo Lin Shing triad group. As such, it won’t be as action-packed as the gangster thrillers you might be used to, since the first scenes focus on setting up the candidates and what they’re for. That being said, that doesn’t mean there is no action at all. Far from it, director Johnnie To wields the film’s violence sparingly but effectively, in spectacular stylish action sequences that lets out the film’s tension.
