Mulan

Dir. Barry Cook & Tony Bancroft · United States of America · English, Mandarin

The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.

What happens

When Imperial China calls one man from every family to defend the empire from invading Huns, a young woman disguises herself as a soldier to take her ailing father’s place. Facing ruthless invaders, brutal training, and the risk of execution if discovered, she must decide who she truly is— and what she’s willing to fight for.

What the critics said

Notable Critics

"For a film with so much at stake, Mulan never feels epic, but it does succeed as a story of a young woman courageously defying cultural and social expectations."

— Leila Latif

"In Niki Caro's "Mulan," that story elegantly and energetically moves forward, a timeless message made for right now."

— Kate Erbland
