Nobel 2016

A Homeland-type Norwegian show that's more substance than form

Our Take (by Bilal Zouheir)

This Homeland-style mini-series is about a Norwegian soldier who returns home from Afghanistan and finds himself tangled in a web of questionable global politics.

Like most Norwegian series on the topic, and there have been quite a few lately, the production value struggles to match Hollywood shows. But paying that small price will get you an abundance of sharp dialogue and a nuanced thriller.

Notable Critics

"Intelligent, sincere and unabashedly goodhearted."

— Matt Zoller Seitz

Synopsis

Lieutenant Erling Riiser is on his way back to Norway after a long stay in Afghanistan. Much has gone wrong, several soldiers are missing from the Hercelus-plane. After only one day in Norway, Erling receives a text message saying an old acquaintance from Afghanistan is in Oslo - which can mean only one thing: A woman's life is in danger

Comments

  1. We loved this series through episode 6 but Netflix ended the run on Nov 6 and we haven’t found where to watch the remaining episodes.
