Things get pretty dark pretty fast in Vice Principals, which I suppose is to be expected from any Danny McBride and Jody Hill creation (the duo is behind shows like The Righteous Gemstones and Eastbound & Down). But if you can sit through its deep cynicism, then Vice Principals proves to be a ferociously funny show. McBride and Goggins are great physical comedians by themselves, but together, riffing off of each other’s hater energy, they’re glorious. They’re like The Office’s Jim and Dwight if they actually acted on their impulsive R-rated thoughts. It’s also just hilarious to see teachers and school administrators be their righteously angry, potty-mouthed selves for a change.
Synopsis
After North Jackson High's long-time principal steps down to tend to his ailing wife, Neal Gamby and Lee Russell, the school's vice principals, are forced to put their mutual disdain aside and form an unholy alliance in order to sabotage the newly appointed principal, Dr. Belinda Brown.
Storyline
Co-vice-principals Neal Gamby (Danny McBride) and Lee Russell (Walton Goggins) vie for the recently vacated principal position, but they’ll have to go through several obstacles—not least, each other—before getting there.
TLDR
With Gamby and Russel, never has there been a more memorable love-hate workplace duo since The Office.
What stands out
He’s already the second lead, but I genuinely believe the show could’ve used more Goggins.
