The Ron Clark Story tells the true tale of how the titular educator, played by Matthew Perry (Friends), takes on the challenge of teaching troubled sixth graders in Harlem, New York. Far from groundbreaking, it hits all the beats of a typical teacher film: he’s plopped into unfamiliar territory, but thanks to his unconventional methods and earnest desire to uplift his students, he changes their lives forever. What makes it remarkable, however, is Perry’s heartfelt and moving performance. It’s a career-best, one you wished you saw more in his filmography. You might recognize the plot from a mile away, but you won’t be able to stop yourself from being affected by Perry and his students (in particular, Shameika, played by Hannah Hodson). Perry was nominated for a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, Critics Choice, and Emmy award for his role in this TV film.
Passionate and innovative teacher Ron Clark leaves his small hometown to teach in one of Harlem's toughest schools. But to break through to the students, he must use unconventional methods, including his ground-breaking classroom rules, to help them reach their potential. Based on a true story.
