Chasing the feel of watching The Cabin in the Woods ? Here are the movies we recommend you watch right after.

5 kids go to a cabin in the woods. Heard it all before, right? Wrong. This movie twists, parodies, and praises Horror as a genre, while still maintaining a satisfying story. Joss Whedon once described it as a "loving hate letter to the horror genre." It's a hilarious, clever meta-horror-comedy (think Tucker and Dale vs Evil), so don't go in expecting a hugely terrifying movie. There are elements here of horror, comedy, and drama. The movie tries to explain the cultural need for horror movies. Don't go in expecting anything at all. The less you know about the movie the more satisfying it will be. Still not convinced? This movie features a unicorn that stabs people.

A documentary about two "climbing" friends who attempt to summit Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. I say climbing friends because they are both somewhat egotistical, yuppie risk takers and seem to be the type who are only friends when their interests align. Nevertheless, they are truly ambitious, driven adventurers. A storm hits and one of the climbers gets injured. They both know that this is a death sentence, and events go on from there. The story is epic and nearly unbelievable, but for the fact that it actually happened. I am not a climber, but the plot and story will speak to any adventurer who must accept inherent risks, including death, in their outdoor endeavors.

This is a fun genre mashup B-movie, in the vein of old John Carpenter films or those movies you used to run across on late-night cable in the 80s and early 90s. Dan Stevens (that handsome chap from Downton Abbey) gives a knock-out performance as the titular guest (David), who in the movie’s beginning has just shown up on the doorstep of the Peterson family. He says he’s there to pay his respects to the family -- he served with their son, who died in action -- but there is something just a little bit off about him. Everyone in the family is charmed by David except for daughter Anna (Maika Monroe), who approaches him with extreme caution even though she’s clearly impressed by his six-pack abs. The films starts at a slow burn before devolving into nutty, violent chaos, but maintains a dark cheeky sense of humor throughout. The goth pop soundtrack is also killer.
